Jason Murphy, Senior Pastor

Pastor Jason Murphy and his wife Mary were saved through the ministry of Open Door Baptist Church. Jason and Mary were both trained for the ministry by Pastor Blue here at Open Door. Pastor Murphy also received his Pastoral Diploma after graduating from the Open Door Bible Institute where he also served as an Associate Pastor at Open Door for seven years prior to accepting the position of Senior Pastor in October of 2008.

Pastor Murphy grew up in Mukilteo, he and his family now reside in Lynnwood. Aside from the ministry, Pastor enjoys golfing, fly fishing and spending time with his wife and children. His favorite verse is Romans 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." It is Pastor Murphy's passion that through Open Door Baptist Church, people will be saved, grow spiritually and serve the Lord.

Jeremy DeSpain, Assistant Pastor

Jeremy and Kim DeSpain have been locally trained at Open Door Baptist Church. As young people, both of them believed on Jesus Christ personally through the ministry of ODBC, and met while serving the Lord faithfully in the youth ministry. They got married and lived in Lake Stevens, and now happily live in Edmonds. The Holy Spirit began prompting Pastor Jeremy during junior high to fully surrender to the full-time ministry. Upon graduating high school, he completed some business coursework in Bothell at Cascadia Community College, and later transferred to West Coast Baptist College where he accomplished some ministry training, and graduated from the Open Door Bible Institute with his Pastoral Diploma. Brother Jeremy enjoys reading finance books and Bible commentaries, exercising, and spending time with his wife. Pastor and Mrs. DeSpain have a deep desire to impact lives through the Word of God.

Kurt Kennedy, Assistant Pastor

Also a local native from Mountlake Terrace, Pastor Kurt Kennedy was saved at Open Door Baptist Church on April 14, 1994. As he grew in God's Word, Kurt began to serve in various ministries of the church, and later became a graduate of the Open Door Bible Institute with his Pastoral Diploma. Serving in the ministry, Brother Kurt met his wife Wendy. They were married at Open Door in 1998, and continued to serve the Lord there for some time. The Kennedy family spent a few years living, and serving at a church, in North Carolina, but in 2008 the Lord granted Pastor Kennedy the opportunity to join the staff of Open Door. He relocated his family back to Lynnwood to accept the position of Assistant Pastor. Pastor Kennedy and his wife Wendy have been married for eleven years; they have two children- Emily, age 8 and Kevin, age 7.

PJ Murillo, Assistant Pastor

We are proud to have PJ Murillo and his wife Anna serving at Open Door Baptist Church. They have been very dedicated members for many years. They have three beautiful children and reside near Brier. Brother PJ was saved at Open Door, and has graduated from the Open Door Bible Institute with his Pastoral Diploma. Wherever he goes, he talks to people about the Lord Jesus Christ. He is a walking testimony and loves to share the gospel! He loves reading and spending time in fellowship with his family and friends.

Mason Justesen, Pastoral Assistant

Brother Mason was reached as a young boy through Open Door’s Bus Ministry. He yielded his life to Christ as a teenager, and began serving in countless ministries. Mason is a graduate of West Coast Baptist College. He leads our College & Career class, and is a valuable asset in keeping our buildings and grounds well kept. Also, he loves playing sports and spending time with friends.

Patricia Perry, Church Secretary

I grew up in San Diego, California and am the second oldest of seven children. My mother, an immigrant from Mexico, taught me how to speak fluent Spanish, for which I am so grateful. I met my husband in high school and we were married in 1981. I received Christ as my Savior in 1987 after listening to a Christ-Centered radio program. In 1991 we moved to Lynnwood, Washington, where we found Open Door.

My wonderful husband Jon and I have been married for 28 years. We have five great children - two sons Matthew and Luke, and three daughters Katrina, Annie and Sarah. I enjoyed home schooling my three oldest children and now enjoy helping my younger ones with their homework.

I graduated from National University in 1987 with a BA in Business Administration.

I love cooking, gardening, working out at the gym, walking on the beach and spending time with my family.

God has truly blessed us with this church where Christ is the main focus and the Word of God is faithfully preached and taught, and where missions and outreach are of great importance. We have raised our family here under these principles and have been given many opportunities to serve and minister to others. Dr. and Mrs. Ken Blue, Pastor Emeritus

Pastor Ken Blue was born in Boswell, Ark. In 1955 he accepted Christ as his Savior. He and his wife Joyce have been married 53 years and have five children. He graduated from Midwestern Baptist Bible College in 1969 and started the Open Door Baptist Church in Lynnwood, Wa. where he has pastored for 39 years. Because of health issues (ALS) he was forced to resign as pastor. It is his desire to continue to be used of God to help pastors and believers through the mentoring pastors and ministries to focused productive ministry. Visit his ministry related BLOG.
